Preventative care

Keeping teeth healthy is cheaper, quicker and far more comfortable than repairing them. Most of what we do here is designed to stop problems starting.

Teeth cleaning and dental checkups

Having your teeth cleaned every six months is the single most effective thing you can do for your oral health. We identify plaque and problem areas before cleaning thoroughly, and show you what to keep an eye on at home. Regular checkups mean healthier bones and gums, longer lasting teeth, and early detection of oral cancer and other conditions.

Child dentistry

A child’s first regular dental visit should come just after their first birthday. That first appointment is short and involves very little treatment. You are welcome to hold your child in the chair while we gently examine their teeth and gums. We may take X-rays, clean the teeth and apply topical fluoride, and we will go through how to care for their teeth at home. Prepare them the way you would for a first haircut, and their reaction may surprise you.

Tooth extractions

A tooth may need removing because it is severely decayed, has advanced periodontal disease, has broken beyond repair, sits badly in the mouth, or is being taken out ahead of orthodontic treatment.

Gum disease treatment

Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums that gradually destroys the support around your natural teeth. Adults over 35 lose more teeth to it than to cavities, and three out of four adults are affected at some point. It is caused by bacterial plaque, a colorless film that constantly forms at the gum line.

  • Deep cleanings. Scaling and root planing to remove plaque and calculus from below the gum line, where brushing cannot reach.

  • Periodontal maintenance. A regular cleaning schedule after treatment to keep the infection from returning and to protect the bone you still have.

Restorative dentistry

Repairing what is damaged and replacing what is missing, with work designed to be undetectable.

Dental fillings

Tooth decay is one of the most common chronic health conditions, and a filling is a natural-looking, long-lasting treatment option. We use tooth-colored composite fillings for decay, chipped teeth and cracked teeth, aiming for restorations that are virtually undetectable. Tooth sensitivity may be a sign of decay or a fracture.

Dental bridges

A bridge replaces missing teeth by attaching artificial teeth to the natural teeth on either side. Fixed bridges are held by crowns on those teeth or bonded directly to them; removable bridges attach with clasps or precision attachments.

Dental crowns

A crown is used to strengthen and restore fractured, decayed, otherwise compromised or visually non-esthetic teeth. It is a highly reliable solution for the most serious dental problems.

Root canals

A root canal saves a tooth whose pulp has become infected. The pulp sits at the center of the tooth, and infection can follow trauma, deep decay, cracks and chips, or repeated dental work. Symptoms include visible swelling, sensitivity to temperature, or pain in the tooth or gums. We remove the injured pulp, then clean and seal the root canal system.

Dentures

A denture replaces natural teeth and supports the cheeks and lips. Upper dentures cover the palate; lower dentures are horseshoe shaped to leave room for the tongue. We fit the full range:

  • Immediate dentures. When an existing tooth or teeth have to come out, an immediate denture ensures you don’t leave without teeth. We take impressions of your teeth and gums before the extractions and fit the denture at the extraction appointment. Your tissues change shape as they heal. Temporary linings or tissue conditioners are used to adapt the denture to the tissues during healing. A permanent reline gives it an exact fit once healing is complete.

  • Implant retained dentures. Attached to dental implants for a far more secure fit than a conventional denture can give.

  • Partial dentures. For replacing one to numerous teeth while coexisting with natural teeth.

  • Maintenance. Mouths change shape over time, so dentures need looking after: adjustments to the fit, and hard or soft relines to rebuild the surface that rests against your gums.

Cosmetic dentistry

Modern techniques make a bright, even smile easier to reach than most people expect.

Dental bonding

An alternative to veneers, used to restore teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored or out of line. We lightly etch the tooth surface, apply a bonding liquid, then sculpt a plastic resin into shape before trimming and polishing it to a natural finish.

Porcelain veneers

Veneers are thin shells of ceramic bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth. We design each case individually to match and enhance the character of that patient’s smile. Bonded in place they are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea and cigarette staining.

Whitening treatments

We offer a multitude of whitening options including take home or in office solutions. Options include whitening tray fabrication and full mouth or single tooth treatments.

Invisalign

Invisalign information. Invisalign straightens teeth as effectively as traditional metal braces, using a series of clear plastic aligners that are virtually invisible.

Advantages of Invisalign. The aligners are removable, so you can brush and floss normally rather than working around brackets that trap decay. There are no food restrictions, because you take them out to eat. And there are no wires or metal to poke and irritate your gums, just smooth plastic.

Specialty procedures

Botox for cosmetic use and for TMJ pain, bone grafting, platelet rich plasma, platelet rich fibrin and dental implants. Each has its own description on the specialty procedures page.

Dental clearance exams

Your physician or surgeon may require a dental clearance before starting certain medications or before joint replacement surgery as an untreated infection in a tooth or gums may cause problems elsewhere in the body. We offer clearance examination and treatment services.
